About Jennifer
The only “formula” that actually works is the one you create by doing things your way.
It only took me two years to get fed up with the corporate world, the kind of environment where uniformity is as sacred as a prayer, and following protocol means you’re doing things right.
Which is a seductive idea isn’t it? To do life “right.” Especially when we’ve all known people who, behind the curtains, did life so wrong.
There are many reasons we forgo creativity and play it safe. And there are many ways to wallow where it’s comfortable. But the riskiest thing you can ever do is stand still - and never roll the dice...
I bought my first house at twenty-three years old with little capital and zero knowledge of the process, but that didn’t make me the only amateur in the room. It was a classic case of the blind leading the blind, which is a polite way of saying I got screwed. Luckily, our shittiest experiences are often our biggest eye openers. And some of us see things quite clearly when we’re flat on our face.
There was obvious room for improvement in real estate, and I would be the one who got to fix things. This was the challenge I needed to remedy my corporate boredom. I had the smarts. I had financial success already, so my work experience would surely serve me well. I would make my own hours, be my own boss, do a better job serving home buyers, and voila - I would love my life.
But I sold two house in my first four years, exhausting the methods every other agent was using, not realizing that none of us were making headway. All this while, supplementing my income at a brewery called Rock Bottom.
The universe has a wicked sense of humor but it sends a clear message - Crank the music up. Dig in. Get creative. Figure it out.
So I researched. And I tweaked. But mainly…
I fell in love with those ubiquitous concepts people think they understand but don’t - BRANDING and MARKETING. My education and corporate career was in marketing, and even I didn’t understand that in the entrepreneurial arena - the real estate arena - branding and marketing is the courageous art of knowing yourself, daring to be different, and creating the kind of business that benefits your client.
If you want potential clients to choose you - first you have to give them a reason as to why they should.
Which is exactly what I did. And then...
I became the go-to agent for first time homebuyers. I built my own brokerage bursting with more customers than I could handle. I hired more agents. I trained them. Their success was unprecedented, and agent grad school was born. The brokerage had companies all over the country making offers to buy it.
All by shedding the uniformity and unlearning what I thought I knew, which meant unlearning how to be the same.
Traction is for the courageous. It’s for those who embrace who they are by letting go of who they are not. And that always feels like the biggest risk when, in fact, it’s the only way to live well. To work well. To love what you do...and have your clients love it too.
If you want to progress in this business and figure out how you do real estate, you’re in the right place.
